The São Tomé and Principe archipelago, of volcanic origin, consists of two main islands: São Tomé Island and Príncipe Island, with several adjacent islands, including "Rolas", "Cabras" and "Pedras Tinhosas". There are no active volcanoes and it is the smallest country in Africa.
The Amelia Lagoon is located in the center of São Tomé island and formed in an old volcano crater that gave rise to the island.
Itinerary:
Departure from your hotel towards Bom Sucesso, where your guide will be waiting for you.
In Bom Sucesso, you will visit the Bom Sucesso Botanical Garden at 1465m above the Obô Natural Park. The Botanical Garden has a herbarium with over 1,000 plant samples, including endemic species.
You can also watch the amazing giant gingers whose floral half apple opens to give a very beautiful yellow flower.
You will be amazed and amazed by the 35 species of orchids gathered in this magnificent garden.
As for flowers, these islands have very interesting varieties that attract the attention of the visitor. Most admired are the porcelain rose, the red-orange rose, the parrot's beak, and the giant begonia.
The trek begins through the rainforest of Obô Nature Park, through the secondary forest and then "plunges" into the primary forest with its giant trees.
It will go along a path lined with giant Costius, better known by the name of cane monkey, wild strawberries or even the soap plant, which as the name says, makes a foam and lava.
You can see a variety of endemic species, such as the White Eye Sao Tome bird, zosterops lugubris, the Sao Tome Hummingbird Moro sphinx, the Sao Tome Flycatcher Terpsipfone atrochalybeia, the Sao Tome Martinet, the Astrild of Sao Tome, the Prinia molleri.
At the end, after passing several trails, you will find Amélie Lagoon surrounded by giant flowered petunias, more than 2 meters high.
This extraordinary ecosystem is a reservoir of biodiversity. Most of the island's rivers originate from Amelia Lagoon.
You will see dragonflies, butterflies, birds and even endemic frog species.
In this privileged we can admire the vegetation around the island, have a picnic and admire all this beauty.
After this idyllic time, you will return to the hotel.
