Duration: full day (7h to 18h)
Difficulty Level: Very Difficult - This hike is very demanding on the physical level, as it requires resistance on trails made of slippery rocks, uneven paths and difficult descents. All in particularly hot and very humid weather (+/- 90% humidity).
Observation of endemic species.
Trekking through the rainforest of Obô Natural Park, around historic sites of Portuguese architecture, waterfalls and endemic species.
Itinerary:
This tour starts at 7am at Ponta Furada. Beginning of the walk along an old colonial road through the rainforest to the village of Binda.
From Binda, it will follow a steep slope to the imposing rock beside the remains of the old port of loading, where cocoa was loaded on boats in its golden age.
You will discover the ruins of Juliana de Sousa, the ruined city of Portuguese architecture, which emerges from the middle of the "jungle". You will cross a stream where you can have a refreshing dip.
Lunch will be in Burnay, where you can taste the excellent palm wine, freshly extracted from the palm tree.
After a relaxing lunch, you will resume your way through the dense rainforest towards São Miguel. Here you will discover a secluded beach enlarged by three rivers that jut into the bay and small islets.
It's time to rest ... in a place full of beauty, by the beach, and it is in this silence that the guide prepares the camp in the forest. Dinner will be grilled / roasted over a fire and drizzled with palm wine.
You will go back in time when listening to the guide tell the colonial history of São Miguel and its inhabitants.
NB: This walk can be modified depending on the weather conditions.
NBa: Transport by car from your hotel to the starting point of your excursion / hike. The walking guide will explain the program and give the necessary instructions before starting the walk. At the end of the walk, you will return by car to the hotel.
NBb: The lunch break will be in a place arranged for that purpose.
