City Tour - São Tomé

City of São Tomé - the largest city in São Tomé e Príncipe.

Visiting this city is a unique experience, it's like  going back over 60 years and seeing what life was like in the middle of the 20th century.

Opening hours: Between 9 am and 4 pm (to be agreed with the customer)                 Departure/return: Customer's accommodation

Duration: 6 hours (including lunch break)

    Essential points of this itinerary:

  • Fort of São Sebastião, built in 1575, where the National Museum of São Tomé is located.
  • Cathedral of Nossa Senhora da Graça de São Tomé, the first catholic cathedral in all of sub-saharan Africa, built in the 16th century. In 1992 Pope John Paul II paid him a visit.
  • Independence Square, the heart of the city, where the proclamation of independence of the archipelago of São Tomé and Príncipe took place, located right in front of Ana Chaves Bay.
  • Presidential Palace, former Palace of the Governor of the Portuguese colony, and its exuberant garden.
  • Lunch at the recommended restaurants Papa Figo, Pirata or Filomar.
  • Qua Téla, a non-governmental organization that promotes the sale of products from the land, transformed by local artisans.
  • Picapau, local craft shop.
